Year 2 Progress

Playbook launch

Further to the initial launch of the Scottish AI Playbook holding page and call for content submissions at the 2022 Scottish AI Summit, the Scottish AI Playbook was launched in its entirety in late July 2022. The launch was supported by an online event in August where attendees learned more about the Scottish AI Playbook, including a short demo of some of the key features of the Playbook wiki and details of how they could get involved with the development of the Scottish AI Playbook.

Full Playbook Development

While the full Scottish AI Playbook platform has been made available since July 2022, development and improvement works have been ongoing based on feedback from the Scottish AI ecosystem and Playbook users. As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering an inclusive, usable and accessible platform, ongoing works have been carried out by our suppliers with support from the University of Edinburgh to enhance the accessibility of both the Scottish AI Playbook main page and the Playbook wiki site.

Further to this, subsequent development works have been carried out to enhance the overall usability and functionality of the Playbook wiki. A more engaging and responsive main page has been developed, along with the development of template pages to better structure and present data housed within the wiki. These template pages have been put to initial use in creating our Playbook Partner pages and Playbook Hubs, discussed below.

Playbook Partners

One area in which the Scottish AI Playbook has sought to operate collaboratively is by the development of Playbook Partners, key organisations in the tech ecosystem supporting and maintaining a presence on the Scottish AI Playbook. Our current Playbook Partners are:

  • CyberScotland

  • Jisc National Centre for AI in Tertiary Education

  • Fintech Scotland

  • The Data Lab

  • Institute of Engineering Technology

  • Scotland’s Futures Forum

We expect to grow this number and create a network of Playbook Partners in organisations across Scotland and the rest of the UK. This network will not only continue to add necessary and relevant information and resources to the Scottish AI Playbook, but also provide a network for promoting and developing the Playbook into other audiences and areas.

Playbook Hubs

We are currently in the development of several Playbook Hub; areas for a diverse array of subject-specific resources to be housed for easy access and further learning for those interested in artificial intelligence in dedicated areas. Our first Playbook Hub will focus on data and AI in healthcare and is currently being developed.

Playbook Volunteers

To support the development of the Playbook and to encourage the addition of resources, we have recruited a small group of Playbook Volunteer Editors from across academia and industry to contribute resources to the Playbook.

Playbook Events

As well as the Scottish AI Playbook launch event in August 2022, we also ran series of follow up events to continue to inform and update the Scottish AI ecosystem about the development of the Scottish AI Playbook. In addition to this, we also held our inaugural Playbook Editathon to celebrate Ada Lovelace Day, supported by DataFest Fringe and Ada.Scot. This editathon focused two key themes: inclusivity and technology. Attendees learned how to add and edit resources on the Playbook and added resources themselves.
