YEAR 2 AND BEYOND

2.10 Expand international collaboration on AI and children

We have made a promising start on this, building on several existing international links with a view to developing more formal collaborative partnerships. A major highlight was our facilitating a virtual ‘Getting AI Right For Every Child’ roundtable discussion. Held in September 2021, this saw nearly 100 attendees from around the world discuss how we must make AI work in ways that fully respect children’s rights. This exciting and novel event spanned a wide range of relevant issues, and you can read some reflections from panellist Alisha Aurora here

Although this is a Year 2 and Beyond action, the Alliance has started laying the foundations on establishing an engagement programme around children and AI. Establishing a collaboration with The Alan Turing Institute and the Children’s Parliament, a two-year programme to engage children across Scotland in AI and the AI Strategy will commence in May/June 2022.

The Scottish AI Summit will mark a formal launch point for this collaboration in a panel session titled “Why it is important to engage children in AI and how to do it right” which will involve The Alan Turing Institute, Children’s Parliament and also UNICEF and the World Economic Forum and will make connections with the international Generation AI project.
