Scottish AI Summit 2024 Keynote Speakers Announced
The Scottish AI Summit is back on 28 March 2024, with a programme that you’ll hear a lot more about in the new year, including workshops, panels, demos, and more.
This month, we’re announcing two amazing keynote speakers for the event.
Abeba Birhane
Abeba Birhane is a cognitive scientist, currently a Senior Advisor in AI Accountability at Mozilla Foundation and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the School of Computer Science and Statistics at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. She researches human behaviour, social systems, and responsible and ethical AI – work for which she was recently featured in Wired UK and TIME on the TIME100 Most Influential People in AI list. She also serves on the United Nations Secretary-General’s newly-convened AI Advisory Body.
Oyidiya Oji
Oyidiya Oji is a Policy and Advocacy Advisor for Digital Rights at the European Network Against Racism (ENAR). She focuses on advocacy on the AI Act and related digital rights portfolios. She defends a transversal and sustainable relationship with EU institutions with a racial equality lens. Previously, she researched and mapped projects of resistance and reappropriation of technology, with a special focus on AI. She was also part of artivism and digital community building collectives and organised monthly meetings with people from underrepresented backgrounds in tech from across the globe.

The Scottish AI Summit is an annual conference from the Scottish AI Alliance showcasing Trustworthy, Ethical, and Inclusive AI from Scotland and beyond. The event aims to involve a diverse audience in the conversations that need to be had about AI.
In the 2024, the Summit will be held at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh. The programme will consist of sessions in response to our five provocations around the "The who, what, where, when and why of AI":
Who should regulate AI?
What steps can we take to prevent AI discrimination?
Where are the diverse voices in AI?
When will we trust AI?
Why should we care about the ethics of AI?
