Much has been achieved in realising the vision of Scotland's AI Strategy in the last three years. However, as we stated back in 2021, the Strategy is agile by design and will evolve to reflect rapid technological and social change. The advent of Generative AI and the global public debate it has triggered means that now is the right time to take stock and ensure the Strategy remains fit for purpose.
Richard Lochhead MSP, Minister for Small Business, Innovation, Tourism and Trade, therefore announced in June 2023 at the Scottish Parliament that he was commissioning the Alliance “to lead an independent review to set out what Scotland needs to know now to maximise the benefits of AI while controlling the risks [and] come back with recommendations in due course”.
The independent experts of the Scottish AI Alliance Leadership Group have now produced a report summarising key opportunities and risks, based on the most up-to-date evidence available, and drafted recommendations on how these could be addressed.
The Alliance Leadership Group would now like to invite everyone who wants to help shape the future of AI in Scotland to provide feedback on those recommendations.
Your views will be considered by the Scottish Government alongside the independent report when providing its formal response to the review later this year.
